About 250 million people, 83 percent of the United States population, live in our country’s
metropolitan areas. Many of those people have never heard the gospel, or perhaps they have
forgotten that there exists a God who loves them. Most do not have a Bible-believing church in
their community. In fact, in many cities, most people do not attend a church of any kind.

Kentucky Baptists, through an effort led by local Baptist associations and the Kentucky Baptist
Convention, are being challenged to make a Kingdom impact on metropolitan communities outside
the Bible Belt. Through Go Metro USA, associations partner with one another in a three-year
effort to assist Southern Baptist church planters in metro areas. The goal is to push back spiritual
darkness by equipping local believers as they start new churches that, in turn, will start other new
churches so people everywhere can hear the gospel of Christ and experience His love.

It Starts in Kentucky
A group of four to seven local Baptist associations work together to “adopt” a Go Metro USA
city and a Southern Baptist church planter serving there. Associations need not be in the same
geographic region but ongoing communication is a must among the group. The Kentucky Baptist
Convention Missions Growth Team, working with the North American Mission Board, other state
conventions and associational directors of missions will identify cities and church planters in need
of partners.

Before deciding on their Go Metro USA city, associational leaders may choose to take a “Vision
Trip” to see for themselves the needs and meet the church planter. But the most import-ant
component of the partnership will be strong support from Kentucky Baptists at home.

Pray, Encourage, Go

Pray
Each Kentucky Baptist in the partner associations can participate in this effort through prayer.
Prayer provides access to God and His power. Intercession should be intentional and focused.

Encourage
Your church planter and his family may be the only Baptists or evangelical Christians in their
community. They need encouragement from fellow believers to continue serving in their mission
field.

Go and Give
Through this partnership, Kentucky Baptists want to catch the vision God has given their Go
Metro USA church planter and local believers. With planning and training, Kentucky Baptists will
come alongside fellow Christians to help them reach milestones in starting new, Bible-believing
congregations that, in turn, will start other churches.

There are many possibilities to serve. These are a few:

Prayerwalking
Backyard Bible clubs/vacation Bible school
Ministry evangelism
Community surveys
Renovation/repair
Financial resources
