Director of Missions:
Gerald Murphy
Gerald was born in Somerset, KY and lived in Pine Knot, KY until the
age of five when his family moved to Palatka, FL. He married his wife
Shelia on August 24, 1974 and they have three grown children.
His education includes a Bachelor of Music Education degree from
Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL received in 1977. He also
received the Master of Divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1987.
Gerald has served bi-vocationally as a music director, Minister of Music & Youth and full-time
as Minister of Music & Education. His pastoral experience includes almost 16 years serving
churches in Florida, Georgia and Kentucky. He and Shelia have also served as IMB missionaries
overseas in Central & Eastern Europe (Russia, Germany and Hungary).
They returned to ministry in the states in 2005 to pastor Hodgenville FBC. He came to Severns
Valley Association in May of 2007.

Office Manager/Ministry Assistant:
Gladys Stieben
Gladys was born in Louisville, KY and lived there until the age of 6 when
her family moved to Larue County. Gladys graduated from Larue County
High School and then attended Sullivan College in Louisville where she
studied Business Management and Data Processing. She married David
Stieben in 1985 and they have 3 children. Gladys has been a resident of
Elizabethtown for 10 years and was secretary at Youngers Creek Baptist
Church for 6 years before coming to work for the Association in November of 2004. She is
active at Valley Creek Baptist church where she and her family are members..

Counselor:
Sara Rice
Sara E. Rice has provided pastoral counseling services for the Severns
Valley Association of Baptist Churches since 1991. She is certified in
Kentucky as a Professional Counselor and in the American Association
of Pastoral Counselors at the Fellow Level. Before coming to Kentucky,
Sara served as pastoral counselor and hospital and home health chaplain
in Virginia and Florida. Sara's Master of Divinity is from the Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and her Bachelor of Science is from the University of
Alabama. Sara lives in Elizabethtown with her husband and two daughters. She works with five
year olds, thirteen year olds, and young adults at Severns Valley Baptist Church, where she is a
member.

Baptist Campus Minister:
Michael Coogle
Michael is a native to the Elizabethtown area. He
graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1998.
From there he was off to Campbellsville University
where he received a Bachelors Degree in Political
Science and History, with other emphasis in Biblical
Studies. He is currently working on a Masters in
Christian Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy at Campbellsville University. He is
married to Jennifer Coogle, and Admissions Counselor and Masters Student at
Campbellsville University While not on the Elizabethtown Community and Technical
College Campus serving as the Baptist Campus Ministires Campus Minister, he is also the
Minister to Students at Immanuel Baptist Church here in Elizabethtown. Michael has a true
compassion for ministering to and reaching the needs of students of all ages, and is
convinced that Christ is the ultimate Counselor, Healer and only One who can truly meet
those needs. Michael was also on staff at Cecilia Baptist Church for nearly 5 years, as well
as First Baptist of Lebanon Junction where he first moved forward with his calling into
ministry with an internship at FBC of LJ, lasting about 2 years.
